What are smart wallets?

Smart wallets are on-chain wallets that provide additional security and features to make your experience as seamless as possible. When you sign in, Trendies creates an on-chain smart wallet for you via the ZeroDev SDK.

Who controls my smart wallet?

You own and control your smart wallet.

If you sign in via a social account, Privy generates an EOA wallet that is tied to your social account. This EOA wallet is the signer and controller of your Trendies smart wallet. You can always export your wallet private key in the settings menu to use in another wallet of your choice.

If you sign in by connecting your own wallet, then your wallet is the signer and controller of your Trendies smart wallet.

Trendies does not have control over your smart wallet. All smart wallet transactions need to be signed by the controlling wallet.

Why does Trendies use smart wallets?

Smart wallets offer features and benefits over traditional EOA wallets. Two notable smart wallet features Trendies uses are:

  1. Bundling - this feature allows for multiple operations to happen in a single transaction. Some actions that would traditionally require multiple transactions and signatures are bundled together on Trendies into a single transaction, resulting in a more seamless and responsive experience.
  2. Sponsored transactions - this features allows Trendies to sponsor gas fees for certain transactions. On Trendies, transactions for liking posts, claiming rewards, and staking your coins are all sponsored, resulting in no gas costs for users for these actions.

Can I export my smart wallet private key?

Since smart wallets are on-chain wallets, they do not have a private key. Instead, they are controlled by the EOA signer.

Can I withdraw to a centralized exchange?

Most centralized exchanges support deposits from smart wallets. Unfortunately, some exchanges (like Bybit) do not yet support deposits from smart wallets.

When depositing to exchanges that do not support smart wallets, simply withdraw to another wallet first before depositing to your exchange.
